Success & Achievement For Everyone
At The Beacon we have number of home learning opportunities that we offer to our pupils.
Home Learning Project This is linked to the topic theme for the term and will give pupils some ideas and suggestions for a project they can work on at home. It might be research based or include some designing and making. It will usually cover a few curriculum areas including maths, English, science and art and design technology.
Choose a book Tuesday Pupils are able to choose a book from the class library, to take home and share with an adult.
Reading Books Our pupils bring home the reading book they read in school to staff. This provides an opportunity to practise and consolidate reading skills. A home reading record is provided for adults at home to comment.
Maths Library The maths library opens on a Wednesday. Pupils use a voucher to borrow a game to be taken home to be played across the end of the week and weekend. Returns are on a Monday. Our school website has a variety of links to maths websites that pupils can access at home. All pupils also have their own personal username and password for Lumio, a maths website which targets curriculum areas and tracks their progress.
Get Active … At Home At the beginning of every half term, all pupils will receive a booklet containing ideas for different physical activities, to support you in achieving the recommended 30 minutes of daily physical activity at home.
‘Take PE home’ bag Each week, a different pupil will be selected to take our ‘Take PE home’ bag home. This contains a variety of physical play resources which can be used throughout the week to encourage physical activity at home.
